Seven Delicious Fall Pies You Must Try

7 fall pies
Nothing Screams Fall Like Pumpkin, Pecan, and Salted Caramel Apple Pies

Fall is officially in full swing, and you know what that means – it’s time to start thinking about pies. For many of us, fall is all about comfort food, and it doesn’t get much more comforting than a slice of pie. So if you’re searching for new pie recipes, I’m going to share seven delicious fall pies you must try (one for every day of the week) that will knock your socks off. Some are obvious, and some are not!

It’s time to get comfy, pour yourself a cup of coffee, and read on.

Did Someone Say Pie?

Savory Meat Pie

Ever wonder who invented the first pie? According to Time Magazine, pies have a “history that goes back as long as mankind has had dough to bake into a crust and stuff to put inside it. “

Historians trace pie’s initial origins to the Greeks, who are thought to be the originators of the pastry shell, which they made by combining water and flour.  The wealthy Romans used many different kinds of meats — even mussels and other types of seafood — in their pies.   In medieval England, they were called pyes, and instead of being predominantly sweet, they were most often filled with meat — beef, lamb, wild duck, magpie pigeon — spiced with pepper, currants or dates.

And while seafood and meat pies are still around and enjoyed by many, it’s dessert pies that have taken front and center stage. Mention pie to me, and I automatically think of pumpkin, blueberry, apple, pecan – you get the picture.

These seven fall pies you must try are the epitome of Pie Americana. I dare you not to love every one of them! And now, onto those pies!

1. Salted Caramel Apple Pie – Oh My!

Salted Caramel Apple Pie

Can you say, yum??? Salted caramel and apple are a great pair in this indulgent pie that’s perfect for fall. Grating the apple will help the fruit release more pectin, which is a natural thickener. The syrupy filling is delicious, and the crust is divine. No wonder it’s included in my seven fall pies you must-try list.

If you’re pressed for time, use refrigerated pie dough. And if you’re worried about making your own caramel, don’t be. It’s easier than you think. The recipe will walk you through every step.

2. Hazelnut Pecan Pie Also Made My Seven Delicious Fall Pies You Must Try List!

Chocolates, pecans, and hazelnuts. Need I say more? And, this pie is dangerously easy to make, as you can use refrigerated pie crust to save you time. But, the nuts and chocolate do most of the work for you, giving this pie a rich and mildly sweet flavor.

If you’re looking for a pie that isn’t overly sweet, this recipe is for you. Seven delicious fall pies you must try wouldn’t be the same without this pie!

3. The Classic Pumpkin Pie is Most Likely On Everyone’s Fall Pies List

You can’t have a fall pie list without pumpkin pie. This recipe is easy peasy. Refrigerated pie dough will save you time, and the filling requires just a handful of ingredients (many of which you probably have on hand).

4. Bourbon Sweet Potato Pie – Try This, and You’ll Add it to Your Fave Pie List!

A splash of bourbon adds a little something special to this pie, which looks beautiful on any holiday table. The crunchy crust features savory walnuts and hearty oats, and the creamy filling is hard to beat. Don’t forget the whipped cream! You’ll thank me later.

5. Chocolate Pudding Pie – A Must on Any Fall Pie List

If you’re having guests over, you really can’t go wrong with a chocolate pudding pie. Who doesn’t love chocolate? This recipe will show you how to make the crust and the filling from scratch. It’s worth the effort, but if you’re short on time, you can use refrigerated crust and pudding mix. Just don’t let Senior Editor of Saveur.com Keith Pandolfi’s mom, Ellendean, know!

6. Paleo Banana Cream Pie – Surprised to See This Pie Here? It’s Delish!

Paleo Banana Cream Pie

This Paleo banana cream pie is a healthier take on the traditional banana cream pie. The filling calls for coconut milk and oil, bananas, dates, and stevia. It all comes together in an almond flour pie crust that’s just as easy to make. Why a paleo banana cream pie? I wanted to demonstrate that most pies can be adapted to any lifestyle, such as paleo, keto, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and more. Try it, and you’ll go bananas for this pie, and understand why I included it in my seven delicious fall pies you must-try list.

7. Cranberry Chiffon Pie – Always on My List of Fave Fall Pies

When most people think of fall pies, they think of the classics – pumpkin, sweet potato, apple, or pecan, but what about cranberries? With their naturally tart flavor and beautiful color, cranberries are an excellent choice for a fall pie. This variation, published in Saveur.com, adds cranberry liqueur and a creamy base for a unique pie that looks gorgeous on any table.

These seven pies are easy to make and loaded with flavor. Give them a try this fall, and let me know how they turn out!
