Guacamole. It’s such a simple food, but it’s also one of the most versatile. Serve it at a party, and everyone’s happy. Pair it with eggs for breakfast, and you have a special meal. Here’s a secret: Guacamole in and of itself is naturally low carb keto – it’s the perfect keto food. It’s what you put into it that can change the equation. Pair it with some keto tequila cocktails, and it’s a party!
If you’re following the low carb or keto lifestyle, you’ll be happy to hear that you can still indulge in guacamole (although homemade guacamole is best to be sure it’s keto friendly). It’s one of my favorite dips to serve when I’m entertaining. Low carb gluten free guacamole is a real crowd favorite, and it’s one of those rare foods that you can eat on just about any diet (paleo, keto, vegan, vegetarian – whatever).
Look, I love carbs, but when you can find a carb-free food that’s good for you, it’s usually keto-related, and this easy keto guacamole recipe is one for the low carb keto recipes file. As a matter of fact, star this recipe card! You’ll use it again and again. There are even low carb keto tortilla chips these days, with net carbs right on the nutrition label.
Here’s why keto guacamole is such a great low carb food and some of my favorite ways to eat guac.
Why is Guacamole Such a Great Keto Low Carb Food?
There’s a reason low-carbers and keto dieters love guacamole – it’s delicious and nutritious. Clichés aside, guac does have some impressive nutritional facts. It also fits into many meal plans.
Avocados, the main star of the guacamole show, are loaded with:
- Monounsaturated fats (the heart-healthy kind)
- Fiber, which is excellent for the gut
- Potassium – essential for blood pressure regulation
- Vitamin K, which helps with blood clotting
- Vitamin C – fabulous for the immune system
Other guacamole ingredients – like tomato, lime, cilantro, jalapeno, garlic, and scallions – are also healthy. Many people love to add sour cream as well. Some people swear by chipotle guacamole, so add that to your keto meal recipes file.
What Can You Eat with Keto Low Carb Guacamole?
What I love most about guacamole is that you can pair it with so many foods. Sure, it’s excellent as a dip, but you can add this keto-friendly condiment to just about any meal. It goes well with spicy, sweet, and savory foods.
There are so many ways to enjoy keto guac whether you follow a keto meal plan or not.
Keto-Friendly Foods to Dip
The easiest way to eat guacamole is to go for it straight out of the bowl. Now, I don’t mean scooping it up with a spoon (but I won’t tell if you won’t). I suggest replacing the classic carb-heavy tortilla chips with your favorite keto dip-friendly foods, like:
- Pork rinds: Dip them straight into your guac
- Crispy bacon: Fry them up and use them as chips
- Cheese chips: Use parmesan or cheddar cheese.
- Veggies: Celery, bell peppers, or zucchini sticks
- Low-carb pitas or tortillas: Fry them up with a little butter for crispiness
- Quest tortilla chips are amazing
Any of these options work well, whether you’re snacking at home or hosting a party. When I’m entertaining, I like to make and serve guacamole in a mortar and pestle. It looks beautiful, and it saves me from having to clean an extra dish. Win-win!
Kick your breakfast up a notch. Add a scoop of guac and a side of salsa to your morning eggs. Whether you eat them scrambled, sunny-side-up or over-easy, eggs and guacamole are a match made in heaven.
Keto Taco Salad
Pair your low-carb guacamole with ground beef, lettuce, cheddar cheese, green onions, salsa, and sour cream. My keto tacos pair perfectly with this guac recipe.
If you’re not in the mood for beef, try chicken thighs or bacon. There are plenty of low carb recipes for using chicken thighs in tacos.
Keto Lettuce Wraps
Top any of your favorite keto lettuce wraps – burgers, BLTs, etc. – with guacamole. You can put guacamole on just about anything.
These are some of my favorite ways to eat and serve low-carb guacamole, but there are so many ways to incorporate this condiment into your meals. What’s your ideal way to eat guacamole?
Ingredients for Making the Best Keto, Low Carb Guacamole (Makes 4 servings)
- 3 ripe medium avocados
- 1/4 cup of chopped red onion
- 1 medium lime, juiced, or 1 1/2 tablespoons of fresh or bottled lime Juice
- 1 teaspoon of fresh or bottled lemon juice

Directions to Make Keto Guacamole
Cut the avocados in half and remove the seeds. Scoop the flesh out with a spoon and place into a bowl, and then add the lime juice. Mash up the avocado with a fork or masher. How smooth or lumpy you make your guac is up to you. I like a few lumps, myself. When it’s to your liking, add the additional ingredients, and mix well.
