I often turn to paleo protein powders and smoothies (and sometimes baked treats like muffins and cookies). A scoop mixed with some collagen powder and sometimes fruit – and whatever else I may feel like adding – tastes delicious, keeps me full for hours and is a fabulous way to add protein and fiber to your diet. As for me, sometimes I’m not in the mood for a traditional breakfast of eggs or cereal, and I consistently reach for Myers’ protein powder. · Protein Content Per Serving
When you purchase paleo protein powder, make sure that you look at the nutrition facts, i.e., how much protein will you get per serving?
Often, there are protein powders that offer good protein per serving but come in small serving sizes. Ultimately, such protein powders end up being quite expensive. Therefore, make sure that you look at both the protein per serving and the product’s nutrition facts.
· Sweeteners
Some protein powders come with sweeteners, such as stevia. Some people don’t mind stevia because it comes from a plant, but others don’t like it as it is still like actual sugar. If you don’t want stevia in your protein powder, make sure that you check the ingredients before purchasing the product.
· Ingredients
Whenever you are buying protein powders, make sure that you have a look at the ingredients list. It is best to go for brands that have listed all the ingredients they use – full transparency.

BPA or Bisphenol-A is a chemical used to make plastics. It can be toxic to humans as it interferes with hormones and leads to many disorders in the human body. According to a study by the Clean Label Project, 134 ‘famous’ protein powder brands contained 55% BPA in their ingredients. Therefore, make sure that you are using a reputed brand that is BPA-free.
· Heavy Metals
The same study also found that many protein powders contain heavy metals which are toxic to humans. Intake of heavy metals can lead to kidney issues, vomiting, and liver problems. Whenever you are purchasing a protein powder, make sure that you go through the ingredients.
· Artificial Sweeteners and Thickeners
Another ingredient that you need to stay away from is artificial sweeteners like aspartame. Also, make sure that the paleo protein powders are free of thickeners like xanthan gum.
